Examiners report
SL:
This question attracted criticism from some teachers who thought that the micrograph was out of focus, but candidates only had to identify red and white blood cells. Often the first question on Paper 1 is intended to be easy to help candidates settle in to the exam. This starter question was harder than most and only about 40% of candidates chose differences in gene expression as the reason for blood cells developing differently.
