Identifying concepts

Before starting writing, it is very important to identify the concepts (audience, context, purpose, meaning and variation) which are included in the task.

  • Ask yourself the relevant questions: who am I writing to? (audience); in which situation? (context); what is the goal or desired intention of the task?(purpose),  what is the message I need to communicate (meaning) and what register and tone do I need to use (variation)?
  • Decide the text type that is more appropriate according to the concepts addressed in the task.
