Short cut to give students access to a page

The site now has a new feature which enables you to quickly give (or take away) student access for those pages over which you have control as to whether or not they are accessible by students. Using this quick facility you can choose whether you simply want to give them access or whether you wish to set the page as an assignment.

How to quickly give students access to any page under your control

Those of you that have already set up student access and created groups for your students will know that there are effectively three different type of page on this site.

1. All students have permanent access to the page

2. The teacher determines if and when students can have access to the page

3. The page is for teachers only and students cannot have access

I think it is good to give students as much access to the site as possible. However you may wish to keep them from seeing some questions etc. before you give them out as a test or for homework. Most of the pages that come under Type 2 above are therefore all the pages with quizzes or questions on them and any accompanying pages with the worked answers.

In the past the only way you could give access to these Type 2 pages was to go into student access for each group and determine which pages you wished to give students access to. This method still works but it does involve several steps ('clicks'). There is now a much easier and faster way. Once you have logged in you will find that all the pages that are marked as "Filtered Student Access - Teachers must select these pages" now have a new button on the top left hand side of the page marked "Student Access".

You will see that this opens up to give you three options:

If you simply want to give them access to the page to read or work on their own the click on "Add page to the student access" and it will open up all your groups so that you can chose the one that contains the students you want to give the access to. Click on the group and the page is immediately available to all the students in the group.

If you want to set an assignment then click on the second option and then click on the relevant group which will then take you straight into student access for that group so you can set the date and issue any instructions etc.

Finally, if you simply want to go directly to student access (without having to go back to the home page) then click on the third option "Go to student access" which will take you straight there.
